Meet Janet! Can you guess the story behind the wonderful photograph in the post?
What do you do at Stan Sherlock Associates?
I am a Financial Adviser and joined Stan Sherlock Associates 2 ½ years ago following a long career with a high street bank, the last 3 years of which were spent as a Wealth Adviser.
Why did you become a financial adviser?
My career in banking involved helping high net worth clients with all their financial needs and I took a particular interest in investments. I learnt from experience about the investment market and the opportunities/downsides and nurtured a desire to take this further. When faced with redundancy I couldn't believe my luck – as an alternative I was given the opportunity to train as a Wealth Adviser and have never looked back. My job satisfaction is knowing my clients, helping them build up savings for the future and protecting what they have already.
What has surprised you the most about working in Financial Services?
I am always pleasantly surprised how open and keen people are to speak about their finances when it's not a subject they would normally discuss with people they know.We are professionals and I believe it's a reflection that we are regarded as such.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Reliable, honest, fair
Would your family use the same three words?
No, single minded and obstinate
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
A boat – just a small one to paddle about in for exercise and to enjoy being on the water.
On-line bridge – I would definitely need some mental exercise and playing bridge would make me want to keep playing another game to do better.
If you could choose any super power what would you choose and why?
I'd be able to reliably predict the weather – it would mean that BBQs, holidays, gardening, washing, etc. could all be planned ahead of time to coincide with perfect conditions.
